What Is the Challenge?
Great challenges deserve spectacular settings — and the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge certainly delivers. Up to 2,000 adventurers will take on the island’s stunning coastal path, pushing themselves to go further and dig deeper.
The Full Island route covers 106km of dramatic southern cliffs, iconic landmarks like The Needles, historic Cowes, and picturesque Ventnor, before looping back to basecamp in Chale. Participants can expect full support and hospitality throughout the journey.
With multiple route options available — including ¾, ½, and ¼ Island Challenges, the scenic new Southern 50 Loop, and a 10-mile Cowes Medina Estuary trek — there’s something for every level of walker or runner.

Who’s Taking Part from Paradise?
Meet Rob Machin, our Sage Support Specialist. Rob is no stranger to endurance challenges, but this 106km trek has been a personal goal — especially after falling just short last year.
Why Take on the Challenge?
“I’m raising money for the British Heart Foundation, a cause that’s very close to my heart and my family’s. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps.
“And honestly, I’m also doing it for myself. Once I set my mind on a challenge, I want to complete it. I made it to 65km last year, and I know my downfall was lack of preparation. This year, I’m ready — and I’m determined.”
How Are You Preparing?
“I’m a naturally active person — I play football every week, I love bouldering, hiking, walking, and running. Recently, I’ve been doing regular 10k runs and have a 60km training hike coming up in Wales. All part of getting in shape for the big day.”
Rob’s Top Tips for Fellow Challengers:
“Blister plasters — don’t underestimate them! I didn’t have any last year and paid the price.
“Also, bring multiple pairs of socks and change them at rest stops. Dry feet make all the difference.”
Worst Nightmare on the Day?
“Rain. Nothing dampens the mood more than walking in wet socks and shoes.”
What Will Keep You Going?
“I plan to call friends and family around the world as I will finally be on their time zone and it’s a great distraction!”
